Over 300 booked for illegal protest & ‘raising objectionable slogans’ in Pune

Pune Police has registered a case against more than 300 people for illegally assembling, taking out a protest march without permission, and raising objectionable slogans in front of the Pune Collector’s office on Friday, news agency ANI reported on Sunday.

According to Pune city police officials, a case has been registered under BNS sections 189(2), 190, 196, 223 and sections 135 and 37(1) of the Maharashtra Police Act at Bund Garden Police Station on August 24.

Social media reports, which DH was unable to verify, claimed that the crowd demanded the beheading of one Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj.

This comes after police registered FIRs against the Hindu religious leader over alleged derogatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Mohammed at a religious event in Nashik, PTI reported.
