Dubai: How did the situation of apologizing for Indians arise in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)? What is the reason that the UAE government had to launch an amnesty scheme? Indian people are also praising this scheme. Let us tell you that the UAE government’s amnesty scheme has started from today. There is a time limit of 2 months to avail this amnesty scheme. To help Indians avail this scheme, the Indian Consulate General located here has announced several measures.

Let us tell you that this amnesty scheme of Dubai allows foreign nationals living illegally in the country to regularize their residence status or leave the UAE without penalty. The amnesty program applies to many types of visas including expiry of residence and tourist visa. Apart from this, people living without documents also come under its purview. However, people who have entered the country illegally are excluded from this program.

Know what is the amnesty scheme

Under the programme, applicants who wish to return to India can apply for an Emergency Certificate (EC) and those who wish to regularise their residence status can apply for a short-validity passport. “Applicants can request for EC at the Consulate free of cost. Facilitation counters will be set up at the Consulate General of India in Dubai and Al Awir Immigration Centre. The facilitation counters at the Consulate will become functional from September 2,” the Indian Consulate in Dubai said in a statement on Saturday. (PTI)
