Environment minister Bhupender Yadav extends Ideas4LiFE submission deadline to 15 October, ET EnergyWorld

New Delhi: Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the extension of the deadline for the Ideas4LiFE ideathon submissions from 15th September 2024 to 15th October 2024. Speaking at IIT Bombay, Yadav emphasized the importance of developed economies embracing developed ecologies and called for a strong environmental consciousness among citizens.

The Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Environment Department, organized the ‘Ideas4LiFE’ event at IIT Bombay, aiming to inspire innovative environmental solutions. The event saw active participation from 1,200 students, research scholars, and faculty members from various educational institutions in Mumbai.

Highlighting the interconnectedness of life and the environment, Yadav outlined the government’s mission for sustainable development. He stressed the need for an ecologically conscious model of development, warning against the adverse effects of development, such as rising temperatures and biodiversity loss.

The minister noted India’s achievements in the environmental sector, including meeting renewable energy targets nine years ahead of schedule and launching the Soil Health Card initiative. He also addressed global issues such as food waste, calling for innovative solutions to preserve nature and reduce waste.

Yadav concluded by inviting ideas from students, urging them to contribute to preserving nature and integrating ecological balance into development strategies. The Ideas4LiFE ideathon focuses on seven themes: Save Water, Save Energy, Reduce Waste, Reduce E-Waste, Say No to Single-Use Plastics, Adopt Sustainable Food Systems, and Adopt Healthy Lifestyles.
