Gov. Kim Reynolds is off to India to meet with the country’s leaders on trade investment.

Reynolds said the 10-day trade mission will help establish the state as an investment destination for Indian companies that specialize in manufacturing, biotech, finance, insurance and agricultural exports, her office announced Tuesday.

Much of Iowa’s agriculture industry relies on international exports. The state exported the most goods to Canada in 2023, totaling $5.5 billion, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative reported.

Mason Mauro, Reynolds’ deputy communications director, said the visit is Reynolds’ first time to India, but she led previous trade missions as recently as last year on a multi-country trip to Italy, Kosovo and Israel.

She will give keynote remarks Thursday at the annual U.S.-India Business Council’s 49th India Ideas Summit in New Delhi. CNBC India will broadcast her remarks at around 3:30 a.m. in Iowa because of the 11-hour time difference.

Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, Iowa Finance Authority Director Debi Durham and other Iowa agriculture and business leaders are joining Reynolds on the trip.

Naig said in a news release in April that India recently opened the door for Iowa pork exports, and has a “growing appetite for ethanol and livestock feed.”

Reynolds will also visit the Seghal Foundation, a nongovernmental organization that promotes clean water, research, and education for girls and women, in rural India.
