This year our community team Of Garrard County Farm Bureau, Garrard County Extension Office, Garrard County Cattleman’s Association and the Garrard County Fiscal Court have put together an exciting week filled with safety videos and seminars, demonstrations on farm hazards, free health screenings, and guest speakers to address farm safety awareness. We invite our community farmers, landowners, agribusiness/ business operators, high school students, and other interested parties to be a part of the Garrard County Agriculture Safety Week September 15th through the 20th.
Agriculture is a daunting task for any person that seeks livelihood in this field. Farmers/ranchers, even through hard work and stress, love their work and often follow the legacy of family farmers many years before. Garrard County Farmers need appreciation and community support as they provide food and clothing for our country’s population.
We have a full week planned. First, we have five videos: Monday, September 15, Farm Equipment on Roadways, Tuesday- Heat Stroke Safety, Wednesday- Logging/Chainsaw Safety, Thursday- Silo and Grain Bin Safety, and Friday -Tractor Safety: Rollovers and PTO Safety. On Thursday September 19th 6:00 pm at the Garrard County Fairgrounds, the Garrard County Cattlemen will grill hamburgers for those in attendance. There will be multiple demonstrations and presentations on the different hazards of farm life given to use by University of Kentucky Extension Personnel, Ephraim McDowell Hospitals, and our County Officials, and community members.
