As the festive season approaches, Eastern Railway (ER) is taking significant steps to accommodate the increased passenger demand during Diwali and Chhath Puja. Chief Public Relations Officer Kaushik Mitra announced the operation of 50 special trains, a notable increase from the 33 special trains offered last year. This initiative aims to ensure that families can celebrate the festivities together without facing travel difficulties.
Mitra highlighted that the focus this year has been on enhancing the passenger experience by increasing the number of general coaches. “We are also providing 400 additional services so that none of the passengers have to face any problems,” he stated. This commitment to service aims to ensure that all travellers can return home to celebrate with their loved ones.

Mumbai to Kazipet: Central Railway announces 26 special trains for festive season
A particular emphasis has been placed on routes to Delhi-bound areas, which are popular among travellers during this festive time. Notable services include special trains running from Asansol to Patna on November 3rd, 4th, and 5th, specifically featuring general coaches to accommodate more passengers. This train is scheduled to reach Patna around 8 PM. Additional routes include services from Malda to Udhna, Howrah to Khatipura, and Asansol to Khatipura, all designed to enhance connectivity to the capital and surrounding regions.
Safety and convenience of travellers
In addition to ER’s efforts, Western Railway is also ramping up its services, operating 200 special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja. This includes about 40 trains managed by the Mumbai Division, with significant routes heading to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha.
Both Eastern and Western Railways are taking comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and convenience of passengers, closely monitoring train waitlists and adjusting services as necessary. With these expansions, passengers can look forward to a smoother travel experience as they journey home for the festivities.
