The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are once again caught in a Catch-22 situation after India’s refusal to tour their neighbours for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. India has made it clear that they will only take part in the Champions Trophy if all of their matches as well as the final are organized in Dubai – meaning once again a ‘hybrid model’ for the tournament.
The Pakistan government it is understood have made it clear that the ‘hybrid’ model for Champions Trophy is not acceptable to them. “It’s off the table. The PCB will naturally follow government guidance,” a PCB source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz website.

If the hybrid model is not accepted by the PCB, then the International Cricket Council (ICC) will have no option but to move the tournament entirely out of Pakistan and South Africa has been proposed as an alternate venue. The third option is that ICC Champions Trophy 2025 can be indefinitely postponed.
According to the Cricbuzz report, if the ICC Champions Trophy is moved out of Pakistan or postponed, then the PCB stands to lose about $65 million or Rs 550 crore approximately in hosting fees from the ICC. The PCB have written to the ICC seeking clarifications on India’s stand. In the ICC-PCB communication, there appears to be no mention of security issues and the PCB has raised numerous questions on that front.
“The PCB has responded to last week’s ICC letter seeking clarifications for the BCCI’s decision not to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025,” PCB spokesperson Sami-Ul-Hasan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
India’s former Sports Minister and former BCCI president Anurag Thakur had always stated that India would not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Although since the Champions Trophy was awarded to Pakistan by the ICC, there have been 12 ICC Board meeting and the BCCI raised no concerns about India’s participation in the tournament in them.
