NBCC To Build Eco Friendly Boys’ Hostel At Hindu College, University Of Delhi

The “Bhoomi Poojan Ceremony” for the construction of Boys’ Hostel, Hindu College at North Campus, University of Delhi was done on August 16, 2024. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi, Dr. Vikas Gupta, Registrar, University of Delhi, Prof Anju Srivastava, Principal, Hindu College, KP Mahadevaswamy, CMD, NBCC, Ashwini Shanker, Chairman, Hindu Education Trust and Saleem Ahmad, Director (Projects), NBCC along with other sr. . officers and distinguished guests from both organizations.

NBCC (India) Limited has been entrusted with the construction of the Boys’ Hostel at Hindu College, at an approximate value of Rs 70 crore. This project will be constructed on a Design, Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) basis and will incorporate solar power systems to enhance sustainability, achieving a minimum of GRIHA 3 Star rating for green building.

The new Boys’ Hostel will have a built up area of approximately 1.97 Lakh Sq.ft, comprising Stilt + 5 floors with a building height of 23.37 mtrs approximately. The new Boys’ Hostel will significantly enhance the campus facilities, increasing its capacity to 460 students and will have 230 rooms for students. The expanded infrastructure will also include 33 executive rooms, 10 resident tutor rooms with attached toilets and one 3BHK warden residence. The project will also feature a 700-seater auditorium, designed to support the vibrant cultural, entertainment, and academic life of the college.

Highlights of the Project:

Inspirational Living Spaces: The hostel is designed with a focus on social interaction and ample exposure to nature. It will offer modern comforts such as air conditioning, laundry facilities, a modern kitchen, and a spacious dining area.

Green Integration: Every floor has been provided with double height terraces for providing medium height trees. A major part of top roof terrace shall be dedicated to greenery. The Courtyard in the middle of the building shall have spacious landscaped lawn. The surrounding external area shall also be provided with rows of trees.

Cooling and Environmental Benefits: The project will include giant fountains in the courtyards to provide cooling and reduce pollutants through the infusion of mist and humidity. The environmentally sustainable design includes solar panels and green roofs to generate energy and provide shading, while green air-purifying plants will help reduce the carbon footprint and improve air quality.

This new Boys’ Hostel is set to be a cornerstone in the ongoing development of Hindu College, embodying a commitment to enhancing student life while adhering to principles of environmental sustainability and technological advancement. The project reaffirms NBCC’s role as a leader in the construction sector, dedicated to supporting educational institutions and contributing to their development.
