A Halloween treat rooted in Agriculture and Harvest Season Chime-In

Now that we are in the fall season, it is save to say we have entered spooky season. So, lets talk corn. No, not field corn, but candy corn.

Candy corn was created in the 1880s. At the time, many candy companies made agriculture-themed candies to sell to children in rural areas.

The candy kernel shape was meant to resemble corn kernels which was primarily fed to chickens and pigs at that time. Candy corn was originally called “chicken feed” and was marketed with a rooster logo to appeal the farming community.

Spooky season falls within harvest season, of course. So let’s geta glimpse of how harvest season is going through the lens of a local farmer.

These photos come from our viewer Nate. This first one looks like it was taken in the early morning hours getting the combine ready to go for a long day of harvesting.

Then, this next one is that combine in action. What a cool drone-shot as they’re busy cutting up some beans.

If you have any harvest season pictures, we would love to see them! To submit your photos, find the “Chime In” button on our website.
