The High Court has pulled up Delhi’s health department. The Delhi High Court on Monday said that ‘all is not well’ in the city’s health department, with bitter fighting going on between officials. Along with this, the Delhi High Court entrusted the AIIMS director with the responsibility of implementing the recommendations of the six-member expert committee headed by Dr. SK Sarin to improve services in Delhi government-run hospitals.

The bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan received a letter from Dr. SK Sarin requesting to keep the committee away from monitoring the implementation of the proposed reforms. The bench said that the four-member doctors working in hospitals under the Delhi government are scared, and feel threatened. The court expressed regret over the lack of complete consensus between the bureaucrats and the minister. The court said that the quality of health services in Delhi remains disappointing. The common man is a victim of the indifference of those who are responsible for this.

This bench comprising Justice Manmeet PS Arora said- This letter says a lot. The court believes that if four senior doctors of GNCTD, after preparing a comprehensive report, recuse themselves from the task of monitoring the implementation of its recommendations, it shows that all is not well in the health department of Delhi.

According to a PTI report, a letter signed by Dr SK Sarin on August 26 said that the committee members are facing challenges in implementing the recommendations. This is because four out of the six members of the committee are working under Delhi government-run hospitals. These four members work under the Delhi government.

The court said that the atmosphere is quite toxic. Open allegations are being made from both sides (Health Minister and bureaucrats). Four out of six senior doctors of the committee are scared. They are feeling threatened. Open allegations are being made from both sides (Health Minister and bureaucrats). They are fighting with such bitterness. We believe that instead of fighting diseases, the Health Department of Delhi Government is fighting with itself.

Along with this, the Delhi High Court said, the common man should not face trouble. Unavoidable circumstances require extraordinary measures. This court appoints the Director of AIIMS to ensure that the report of Dr. Sarin Committee is implemented properly. Along with this, the court directed the officials to renew the services of four member doctors for two years. It also said that these four doctors should not be harassed.
