The event, organized by the Consulate General of India in Seattle, marked the 78th Indian Independence Day.

Gates addressed over 2,000 members of the Indian-American community at this celebration, according to a press release issued by the Seattle Consulate.

He highlighted India as a “global leader with breakthrough innovations in areas like technology, agriculture, and healthcare.”

Gates praises India’s global impact

Gates emphasized the global impact of India’s innovative solutions, particularly in vaccine production and digital public infrastructure.

He stated that “India’s ingenuity is helping not just Indians, but the whole world.”

He further noted that nations across the Global South are leveraging India’s experience to build their digital public infrastructure (DPI) systems.

This recognition underscores India’s growing influence in driving global technological advancements.

Collaboration with Indian entities acknowledged

In an Instagram post, Gates said it was “an honor” to participate in the India Day celebrations at the Seattle Consulate alongside senior government officials and Indian diaspora.

He acknowledged his collaborations with the Indian government, philanthropists, private sector, nonprofits, and the Indian-American community, highlighting his strategic partnerships with various Indian entities.

He also extended Independence Day wishes to all Indians.

Event showcased cultural diversity

The India Day celebrations in the Greater Seattle area featured a display of India’s diverse culture through floats and performances.

Each float was curated by prominent leaders of the Indian-American community, reflecting various aspects of India’s rich cultural heritage.

The India Day celebrations were officially recognized by five city councils including King County, Bellevue City (Washington), Portland (Oregon), Hillsboro (Oregon), and Tigard (Oregon).

Iconic buildings in Seattle and Bellevue were illuminated in the Indian tricolor to commemorate the Independence Day celebrations.

This widespread recognition highlights the significance of India’s cultural presence in the US.
