Losses suffered by the country’s Agriculture industry continue to climb following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

The latest estimate puts the losses at $6.5billion.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Dermon Spence, provided the update during Wednesday’s sitting of the Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, PAAC.

More in this report from Shaloy Smikle.

Initial reports had put the estimated damage to just a little over $1billion.

That figure quickly escalated to $4.7billion.

But Mr Spence told Wednesday’s PAAC meeting that the assessment to date now puts the financial loss at more than 6 billion.

Still, the Permanent Secretary says the value of restoring the industry to its former glory will amount to almost $10billion.

Mr Spence says the Ministry’s disaster relief and recovery efforts are well underway.
