Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS: Namo Bharat trail run on 6.5 km Sahibabad to Anand Vihar stretch likely to begin in November, says NCRTC – Infrastructure News

The construction of the Anand Vihar RRTS station is nearing completion, with final touches being applied. Currently, a 42-km segment from Meerut South to Sahibabad is operational. National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) officials have informed that trial runs on the 6.5-km stretch from Sahibabad to Anand Vihar are set to begin in November.

As a major transit hub, Anand Vihar will seamlessly integrate the RRTS with Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, and various city and intercity bus networks. The Delhi section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor includes a 9-km elevated viaduct and a 5-km underground section. 

According to a NCRTC official, with the viaduct now complete, the track laying, overhead electrification and signaling are progressing quickly, with trial runs of the Namo Bharat train on the 6.5-km stretch from Sahibabad to Anand Vihar expected to commence by November.

The 14-km section in Delhi includes the nearly finished RRTS stations at Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, and Anand Vihar. However, the fourth station in Delhi, Jangpura, along with a stabling yard, will be developed later. 

About Anand Vihar RRTS station

Anand Vihar will feature the only underground RRTS station, located one level below ground. The Anand Vihar RRTS station will feature dedicated vehicle pick-up/drop-off points and is connected to Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg via three bridges over the Ghazipur drain. 

The 10-meter-wide right bridge will serve as the vehicle entry point for taxis and private vehicles, the 13-meter-wide left bridge will act as the exit route, and the 5-meter-wide middle bridge will be reserved for pedestrian movement within the station.

Anand Vihar RRTS station to have separate entry and exit points

To address current challenges of congested traffic and long distances between transport modes, NCRTC has designed separate entry and exit routes for the station, aiming to improve travel efficiency and reduce crowding. The station’s location is strategically planned to minimize distances between various public transport options.

Anand Vihar RRTS station to connect with Delhi metro’s blue and pink line

The Anand Vihar station will be connected to the Metro’s Blue and Pink Lines, Swami Vivekananda (Anand Vihar) ISBT, the DTC inter-state bus terminal, the UPSRTC inter-state bus stand at Kaushambi, and Anand Vihar railway station. A foot overbridge currently links the Metro Complex to Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg, with lifts, stairs, and escalators connecting the RRTS station. 

More than 50% of RRTS corridor operational 

Currently, Namo Bharat train services operate on a 42-km stretch from Sahibabad to Meerut South, covering nine stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, and Meerut South. The full 82-km corridor, expected to be completed by June 2025, will allow passengers to travel between Delhi and Meerut in under an hour.
