The 2024 Du Quoin State Fair is once again shining a spotlight on Illinois’ thriving agricultural industry, the state’s leading economic sector. A highlight of the fair, the Illinois Product Expo, invites attendees to immerse themselves in the rich diversity of locally produced goods. This year’s expo, held in the Expo Hall, offers a unique opportunity for visitors to connect with local farmers and producers, and to discover the many products that make Illinois agriculture special.

Running from August 30 to September 1, the Illinois Product Expo will feature more than 15 vendors showcasing an array of goods. Visitors can expect to sample and purchase a wide variety of items, including kettle corn, homemade jams and jellies, honey, seasonings, freeze-dried candy, salsa, coffee, and herbal teas. Beyond food, the expo will offer unique non-food products like alpaca wool goods, handcrafted birdhouses, essential oils, candles, soaps, lip balms, and wood and gourd crafts. For those with a taste for fine wine, several Illinois wineries will provide wine tastings, highlighting the region’s burgeoning viticulture.

Jerry Costello II, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, emphasized the importance of the expo in fostering connections between consumers and producers. “The Illinois Product Expo connects buyers with farmers and producers and allows the community to learn more about where their food is coming from, which is increasingly important to people,” said Costello. He noted the rising demand for locally grown products and expressed excitement about the opportunity to showcase Illinois agriculture at the fair.

Jackie Sambursky, Bureau Chief of Marketing for the Illinois Department of Agriculture, also highlighted the expo’s impact on local economies. “Sampling and purchasing local food offers direct support to local producers in southern Illinois,” said Sambursky. “The Illinois Product Expo gives fairgoers the opportunity to taste what makes Illinois Products unique.”

The Du Quoin State Fair, which runs through September 2, offers free admission to all attendees. Parking is free on August 23, while on other dates, parking fees are $15 for Gate 1 and $10 for all other gates.
