In a significant move to bolster the local economy, President Nayib Bukele announced the opening of six new agricultural markets across El Salvador. Sharing the news on his X account, the president emphasized that these markets are part of the broader Economic Plan aimed at benefiting Salvadorans.

The newly established markets will be located in key areas: El Congo in Santa Ana Este; Zaragoza in La Libertad Este; San Rafael Cedros in Cuscatlán Sur; El Triunfo in Usulután Norte; Apastepeque in San Vicente Norte; and Ciudad Barrios in San Miguel Norte, along with a relocated market in San Marcos, San Salvador Sur. The San Marcos market has undergone a redesign and will be set up on nearby vacant lots to ensure that public plazas remain unaffected.

President Bukele highlighted the advantages of these new markets, stating, “There are more and more locations, better prices, and more variety. Traders are 100% private; the Government only facilitates cutting out intermediaries.” This initiative not only aims to enhance food security and support local farmers but also seeks to alleviate the financial burden on the populace.

The government’s commitment to improving agricultural access underscores its dedication to fostering a resilient and thriving economy for all Salvadorans.
