Ahead of Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, next month accompanied by four top ministers, in a move that could reshape India’s renewable energy and agricultural landscape, AgriVijay has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Next2Sun Germany and Wattkraft India to introduce innovative vertical solar farms across the country. This collaboration, valued between €100,000 and €150,000, is expected to generate over 100 jobs, particularly in rural areas, and drive India towards sustainable energy solutions while preserving agricultural land.

The partnership aims to leverage Next2Sun’s vertical bifacial solar technology, which allows for the dual use of land. Farmers will be able to continue their agricultural activities while generating clean energy. This technology is especially crucial in India, where the need for renewable energy is growing, but land remains a precious resource for farming. The vertical orientation of the solar panels ensures energy generation from both sides of the panel, leaving the land below available for crop cultivation.

Agri Vijay’s Vision for Climate Action

AgriVijay, a $3 million agtech climate action social enterprise, has positioned itself as one of India’s leading startups in post-harvest management, chosen by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Sustain Markets, German Cooperation, and ICAR-CIPHET. With this partnership, the company aims to become a global leader in agtech climate action, as it raises its pre-series to scale its impact in climate action and sustainability.

The pilot projects will range from 100 kWp to 500 kWp and will be implemented in various regions across India. They are designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of vertical bifacial solar technology, making it possible to combine solar energy production with traditional farming. If successful, this model could be scaled nationwide, providing a sustainable solution for India’s renewable energy and agricultural needs.

A Landmark MoU at RE-INVEST 2024

The MoU was signed during RE-INVEST 2024, a global platform promoting renewable energy innovation. The event saw the presence of high-profile dignitaries, including Sascha Krause-Tünker, CFO of Next2Sun AG, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze, and India’s Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi.
