She wrote in the caption, ” As a young girl visiting my grandparents in India, my grandfather took me on his morning walks, where he would discuss the importance of fighting for equality and fighting corruption. He was a retired civil servant who had been part of the movement to win India’s independence. My grandmother travelled across India—bullhorn in hand—to speak with women about accessing birth control. Harris’ post quickly went viral, gathering over two million views. However, the reactions were mixed. Critics questioned the authenticity of her claims about her grandfather’s role in the independence movement.
“How could a serving bureaucrat be part of the independence movement opposing the same government?,” one user asked.
Comments on social media included scepticism and disbelief. A user wrote, “Sorry. I just don’t believe you,” while another added, “Are people of Indian descent buying this?” A third user remarked, “Everything you say is a lie,” and another referenced past controversies, saying, “Oh give it a rest..
