Tri-Cities, WA- — A local non-profit is accepting original ideas to enhance individuals’ lives who work in agriculture.
Nursery of Ideas, or Semillero de Ideas, focuses on supporting farmworkers and fostering innovation in agriculture.
How they do this: they host an annual competition where agricultural workers, past or present, submit an original idea that could help enhance their work in any way.
The winner last year now has his invention out on the market with their support, a harness that helps with back pain to be used during cherry harvest.
The theme this year: improving apple harvest.
“These original ideas are very important in our community. They’re often ideas that aren’t heard, right, and so this contest is an opportunity for them to come and submit their ideas and take it further than just this contest. We have a winner that we had last year, and his idea is actually out in the market and we’re helping him do all the legal stuff and this idea will help other agricultural workers as well, not just him,” said Nayeli Suarez Godinez, Semillero de Ideas Employee.
With the thought that two minds are better than one, they’d like teams of two or more people to submit ideas.
The deadline for your team to submit is October 31.
There will be three winners, all which will be awarded prize money.
First place will win $3,000, Second place will win $2,000, and Third place will win $1,000.
To submit an idea, you can call or text 509-619-3392, or 509-619-3395.
You can also message them on their Facebook, which you can find by clicking here.
