Ujjain: A wall at gate no. 4 of Mahakal Temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain collapsed on Friday due to heavy rain. Some people selling goods nearby and devotees got trapped under the debris. Two devotees were killed in the incident.
Upon receiving the information, rescue teams rushed to the spot to pull out the injured devotees. They sent the victims to the district hospital for treatment. The local administration has been expediting relief and rescue efforts as heavy rainfall continues in the area.
Heavy rainfall in Ujjain
Ujjain has experienced continuous heavy rain over the past few days. Due to heavy rainfall, the old wall fell near the house of Jyotishacharya Pandit Anand Shankar Vyas, leading to chaos among the nearby vendors and devotees.
When Mahakal Temple administration received reports of the collapse, they alerted the police and rescue workers. Together, they began to search through the rubble and carried out rescue operations. However, the exact number of people still buried in the debris remains unknown. SP Pradeep Sharma has confirmed the death of two people.
What eyewitness said
An eyewitness said that she was standing at gate no. 4 with an umbrella when the wall suddenly fell. She saw two women and a child trapped under the rubble. She could not confirm how many other devotees might have been injured in the incident.
