Decries non-continuity of OFN programme by successive administrations

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, urged Oyo State government to maximise its potential and become a national centre for dairy production. He gave the charge during a product launch by a leading beverage company in Ibadan.

Obasanjo, who expressed disappointment that his “Operation Feed the Nation (OFN)” initiative was not sustained after he left office as Head of State in 1976 by successive administrations, however, emphasised the need for governments to support agriculture to enhance food sufficiency in Nigeria.

He acknowledged the French Government’s investment in Nigeria, adding that it has greatly enabled food and human security over the last 60 years. He said that the nation’s food initiative would have further enhanced food sufficiency in Nigeria if sustained until now.

Obasanjo, while reiterating the need for the country to invest in livestock farming, urged President Bola Tinubu to pronounce Oyo State a diary centre. He, however, added the state has potential in livestock and diary production.

In his address, Makinde, who was represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, promised an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the state. He lauded the beverage company for its economic impact, quality products, and resilience in the face of economic challenges.

In his goodwill message, the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, represented by Head of Trade Promotion Commission, Abuja, Aishat Remi, called on investors to embrace commitment, resilience and dedication for investment expansion.

The minister maintained that the Federal Government would strengthen its ties with the French Government for economic collaboration. Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer, Fan milk, Veronic, said the company, established 62 years ago, would continue to provide nutrition through its old and new production to the development of Nigeria, including human skills development, employment and expansive economy for local and industrial firms.
