Metropolitan has announced the launch of a new initiative designed to empower young entrepreneurs. The programme, part of the Metropolitan Collective Shapers (MCS), seeks to provide aspiring agribusiness leaders with the skills, resources, and mentorship needed to thrive in a competitive landscape.
Phumla Mavundla, head of marketing product and channel at Metropolitan, emphasised the importance of supporting youth in the agribusiness sector.
“Agriculture is a vital component of South Africa’s economy, and it is crucial that we invest in the next generation of leaders.
“Our initiative aims to equip young entrepreneurs with not only the technical skills but also the business acumen necessary to navigate the challenges in the agribusiness space,” she said.
Helping the next generation of agri-leaders
The programme includes workshops on financial planning, marketing strategies, and sustainable farming practices. Participants will also receive mentorship from industry experts and access to funding opportunities.
Mavundla further highlighted the initiative’s potential impact, noting, “By empowering young entrepreneurs, we are not only supporting individual growth but also contributing to the overall sustainability and resilience of the agribusiness sector. This initiative is about creating a brighter future for both our youth and our economy.”

“Networking is a vital component of the MCS programme, encouraging participants to build strategic alliances.

According to Mavundla, Metropolitan aims to build on this momentum as the initiative kicks off and create lasting change within the agricultural community.
“Through specialised knowledge, technical skills, mentorship, and financial support, the programme continues to address the unique needs of youth entrepreneurs in the agribusiness sector,” she said.
