Oman’s embassy in New Delhi clarifies on Indian visas

MUSCAT: Oman’s Embassy in New Delhi on Sunday issued a statement urging citizens who are planning to travel to India must obtain “appropriate visas according to the purpose of the visit.”

“India offers tourist, medical and student visas and Omani citizens must take into account the duration of the visa and not exceed the specified period, which is usually specified and printed on the stamp of entry, as the internal laws in India are clear and strict in this regard,” the statement from the embassy said.

The embassy explained that according to the Indian laws, a traveller whose visa expires is prohibited from leaving the country and “can only leave after the issuance of an exit visa which usually takes up to at least three working days with the payment of fees that may exceed RO 100.”

“This procedure also applies to those who obtain a visa that does not correspond to the actual purpose of their travel, such as travel for treatment on a tourist visa. In order to avoid all these procedures, please ensure that you obtain the appropriate visa and comply with the period specified in the visa,” the statement added.
