The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert as a Low Pressure Area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal is set to intensify, leading to increased rainfall across East and Central India in the coming week. Over the next 2-3 days, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka are expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall. 

Additionally, the northwestern states, including Uttar Pradesh, are on high alert with heavy rainfall anticipated over the next 5 to 7 days. In Delhi NCR, light rainfall is forecasted, providing some much-needed respite from the persistent humidity.

Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand through various days this week, with particularly heavy rain possible in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan this week.

Delhi weather today 

The Met office forecasts generally cloudy skies with light rain or drizzle for Monday. Delhi is expected to have a maximum temperature of around 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of about 27 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.

IMD issues orange alert for northeastern states

IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in West Bengal, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura. IMD has issued a warning of very heavy rainfall in Gangetic West Bengal till August 20. This weather event is driven by a low-pressure area and an active monsoon, which is expected to intensify and move west-northwest. 

The system will travel from southern Bangladesh through Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh over the next few days. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal will also experience heavy rain until August 21.
