It is going to be a packed Tuesday with several big events set to unfold today.

US Vice-President Kamala Harris is set to debate former president Donald Trump ahead of the presidential election slated to take place later this year.

Meanwhile, Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval will be travelling to Russia to attend the BRICS summit as India hopes to find a solution to the Ukraine conflict after PM Modi’s visits to Moscow and Kyiv.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on a visit to Germany where he is expected to hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from GCC member countries, according to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The 79th United Nations General Assembly will begin in New York.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shah will likely campaign in Jammu ahead of the election slated to take place this month.

Presidential debate between Trump and Harris

The presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will take place in Philadelphia.

The 90-minute debate will take place at the city’s famed National Constitution Center.

This will be the season’s second general election debate and the first showdown between Trump and Harris.

This comes months after the June debate between Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden, who later announced an end to his reelection bid and endorsed Harris after facing immense backlash over his lacklustre performance and concerns around his age and fitness.

The Tuesday night debate will not feature a live audience or live microphones.

EAM Jaishankar to visit Germany 

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Germany on September 10 and 11.

This will be his third visit to Berlin as a minister.

Jaishankar is likely to meet the German Federal Foreign Minister as well as the leadership and other ministers from the German government.

Jaishankar will review the entire gamut of bilateral relations between India and Germany.

Both India and Germany share a robust Strategic Partnership.

Germany is one of India’s prominent trading partners and among the largest Foreign Direct Investors.

Jaishankar earlier visited Saudi Arabia and had attended the First India – Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

NSA Doval to travel to Russia

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will be travelling to St Petersburg, Russia, this week.

His trip comes in the backdrop of calls for India’s possible role in finding a solution to the Ukraine conflict following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to Moscow and Kyiv.

Doval is visiting Russia primarily to attend a conclave of national security advisors of the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) grouping that is taking place amid a renewed push for peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv to end the conflict.

He is also expected to hold talks with his Russian counterpart and is likely to discuss ways to bring peace to the region.

PM Modi likely to campaign in Jammu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Kashmir from today to boost the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election campaign in in Jammu and Kashmir.

Modi will be joined by Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior ministers of the party.

As per news agency IANS, sources said that the prime minister will address two rallies, one in Jammu and the other in Srinagar, but the dates for these rallies are yet to be finalised.

BJP is fighting the J&K Assembly polls without any alliance partners, although the party may support some Independent candidates depending on the ground situation.

79th UN General Assembly in New York

The 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will begin in New York today.

This year’s theme is ‘Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations’.

While the General Assembly begins today, the high-level general discussion will be held from September 24. As per the agenda, the head of the Nepali delegation, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, will address the General Assembly on September 26.

Tejashwi Yadav to embark on the ‘Workers’ Dialogue Program’

Bihar Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Tejashwi Yadav will embark on the ‘Workers’ Dialogue Program’ to connect with the party workers. Tejashwi said that the Yatra will focus on engaging with those who are actively working for the party, ensuring meaningful interactions without large crowds.

“We will start the Yatra from the birthplace of Jananayak Karpuri Thakur on September 10 and cover four districts by September 17. During the Yatra, we will connect with workers and exchange ideas through the ‘Workers’ Dialogue Program’ to strengthen the party,” said the LoP while outlining Yatra’s objectives during a high-level meeting at the RJD headquarters in Patna.
