TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Travelers or tourists who wish to take a vacation in Vietnam must be aware of the new changes related to electronic visas. Starting Monday, November 11, 2024, the application for electronic visas (e-visas) will be through the new website. This change is part of Vietnam’s efforts to enhance tourism services.
Starting November 11, international tourists to Vietnam can apply for e-visas through the new web portal thithucdientu.gov.vn. The new portal will operate alongside the existing website evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn, which currently handles over 15,000 applications daily.
“Specifically, the new interface will be improved, greatly enhanced, and will include answers to frequently asked questions, in both English and Vietnamese, to facilitate foreign visitors,” said Pham Dang Khoa, Director of the Immigration Department, on Friday, November 8, 2024.
Vietnam has issued e-visas for 90 days for citizens from all countries and regions since 15 August last year 2023. However, many tourists mistakenly entered information on unofficial websites, sending incorrect or incomplete information on the official portal, causing delays in e-visa processing.
Immigration officials advise applicants to ensure they use the official e-visa portal and accurately complete all required fields to avoid application rejections.
How to fill in the e-visa
On the new site, visitors must upload a passport photo and a copy of their passport information page. The system will compare the uploaded photo with the passport photo, determine the percentage of match between the two images, and then extract data from the passport to fill out the e-Visa form first.
Applicants must verify and complete a number of personal data, such as last name, first name, date of birth, gender, nationality, and others. Including data, professional details, travel details, and the type of visa required.
Travelers whose electronic visas are approved can arrive in Vietnam from 42 entry points. Among them, Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang International Airport, Phu Quoc International Airport, Cam Pha Port, Da Nang Port, Nha Trang Port, land checkpoints at several borders with Laos, China, and Cambodia.
Number of Vietnam tourists
According to data recently released by the National Tourism Administration, the total number of international tourists arriving in Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2024 reached more than 14.1 million. This achievement represents a 41.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. Last year, Vietnam welcomed 12.6 million foreign visitors.
The largest markets for international visitors to Vietnam in October 2024 were South Korea, China, Taiwan, the United States, Japan, India, Australia, Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia. While in September 2024, the highest number of visitors came from Switzerland, Sweden, France, Poland, Denmark, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Belgium. The local government is optimistic about achieving the target of 18 million international tourist arrivals in 2024.
