According to the latest forecasts, Delhi will be under a blanket of light clouds today, with occasional drizzles possible. The maximum temperature is projected to climb to around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to hover around 22 degrees Celsius. This marks a shift from the recent cooler, rain-soaked conditions.

Prediction of heavy rains; September average achieved in just 13 days

While today’s weather offers a temporary break, a significant shift is on the horizon. The Meteorological Department warns that from September 15 to 18, Delhi should brace for heavy rainfall, indicating that the respite from rain may be short-lived.

Meanwhile as per IMD’s figures Delhi’s rainfall this month has already surpassed the typical September average. In just the first 13 days of September, the city has recorded 171.3 mm of rain, exceeding the average of 123.4 mm for the month. The highest recorded rainfall in September was in 2021, with 413.3 mm.

The heavy rains have also led to waterlogging in various areas of the national capital region, causing disruptions for residents. Authorities advise limiting travel to essential trips only to avoid inconvenience. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions during this unsettled period.

On a positive note, the recent rains have contributed to an improvement in Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI). As of Friday, the AQI was recorded at 52, the lowest level this season.
